Country Club Plaza

Country Club Plaza, often referred to simply as “The Plaza,” is a historic and vibrant neighborhood located just a few miles south of downtown Kansas City, MO. Bordered by 46th Street, Ward Parkway, and Brush Creek, it offers easy access to downtown and nearby neighborhoods like Westport and Brookside. Established in the 1920s by J.C. Nichols, the Plaza was one of the first automobile-oriented shopping centers in the world. Its iconic Spanish-inspired architecture and beautiful fountains have made it a cultural hub and popular tourist destination, blending historic charm with modern luxury.

The Plaza area features a diverse mix of residents, including professionals, long-time residents, and newcomers, all drawn to its luxurious lifestyle and proximity to businesses. It has become a center for arts and culture in Kansas City, with annual events like the renowned Plaza Art Fair.

The real estate market offers a variety of options, including luxury apartments, high-rise condos, townhomes, and historic single-family homes. Properties in the Plaza typically range from $400,000 to over $1 million. Due to its prime location, homes in the Plaza tend to sell quickly, particularly those with unique historical features. Rent in the area is also higher than in many other Kansas City neighborhoods, reflecting the demand for this sought-after location.

The Plaza provides residents with a wealth of amenities. It’s renowned for its upscale shopping and dining, offering a mix of designer stores and well-known restaurants such as Gram & Dun, The Capital Grille, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Rye, Seasons 52, and True Food Kitchen. For recreation, nearby Loose Park offers walking trails, and Brush Creek provides scenic routes for biking or walking. The community regularly hosts events, such as the Plaza Lights during the holidays and live music performances throughout the summer.

In terms of transportation, the Plaza is well-connected by Kansas City’s bus system, with future expansions like the streetcar expected to improve accessibility. Commuting downtown takes about 10-15 minutes by car, and major roads like Ward Parkway, Main Street, and Interstate 35 ensure smooth travel in and out of the neighborhood.Local attractions include the nearby Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The Plaza’s outdoor architectural beauty, fountains, and cultural significance as a historic district make it a beloved part of Kansas City’s heritage.
